Bio
Dr. David G. Chong is an Oakland-based pianist, vocalist, and educator whose solo act works like a one-man ensemble — singing syncopated neo-soul and salsa over his own clave-driven piano grooves. He holds an Ed.D. in Education Leadership from Cal State LA (2019), where his dissertation documented the Afro-Latin music program he himself graduated from, and has taught at Cabrillo, Diablo Valley, Los Medanos, and Alameda colleges. He holds a weekly Tuesday-night solo residency at The Alley in Oakland. Trained in Afro-Cuban folkloric percussion as well as piano and voice, he brings the rhythm section with him.
